Fire & Snow
Fire and Snow is Gil’s first solo album and consists of 15 of the more bluesy songs he has written over the last two decades.
His love for the blues derives simply from the sounds of the guitar and piano and the blues minor scale. His early influences include John Mayall, Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Elmore James, Free, in particular, and later on, Danny Gatton, Robben Ford and Roy Buchanan.
Gil's songs deviate from the classic blues format, his style having been formed from listening to a wide variety of genres and instruments. He aims to produce solos which are melodic and in context, modelling his approach on work such as the Jay Graydon’s solo on “Peg” (Steely Dan), Rick Derringer’s work on “Free Ride” (Edgar Winter Band), and he also looks up to guitarists such as David Gilmour.
All songs on Fire & Snow were recorded between 2020 and 2022 in England and Portugal, featuring contributions from some very special guest musicians. The album was mixed and mastered in 2023 by Dave Langemann (Creative Native Productions) in South Africa.
A limited number of CDs featuring original design by Gil are available for sale.
