About Gil
Guitarist Gil Gilchrist was born in Ayr, Scotland,
and discovered his passion for music at the age of 13,
upon hearing the Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night” on the radio.
He developed a taste for a wide variety of genres early on,
but none so strong as the blues.
He is self-taught, learning from colleagues, Berklee charts,
and listening to his favourite musicians.
His song writing style has slowly moved from strongly blues-rock
to more mellow tunes featuring open tunings and
more frequent use of acoustic guitar
He has played with musicians all over the world, most significantly
in South Africa with Radio Rats, with whom he has featured as lead guitarist on several albums since 1990. In 2009 he formed 3mountains with his wife, Mônica, and together they produced “Waiting For A Sign”,
an album of original compositions recorded in Brazil.
Gil’s song “No Stranger to the Blues” was modified and recorded
by Snowy White in 2004. The original version, “Stranger”,
appears on his new solo album “Fire and Snow”.
Gil lives with his family in Portugal, writing and recording in his studio,
playing locally, and occasionally touring in South Africa.
